About Gooee O'Brien

In my practice I enjoy painting in oils and creating portraits in clay.

My subject matter varies from still life, landscape and portraiture.

​

I am a realist painter stimulated by plein air, ala prima painting with the completion of paintings in the studio.  The experience of being within the landscape, of using all my senses while painting is an important element of my work.  While painting in Tuscany, for example, I think of the entire experience -  the food, the wine, the weather, the smells, the colours, the sounds and the sights as informing my painting.

 

Colour and light are important elements of my work and I often play with confined palettes as for example in my recent work in Corbino, near Casole d'Elsa, in Tuscany.
